About the studio
Maple & Stone was founded in 2013 by Sarah Calloway and James Okafor. We started with residential work in Portland and grew into commercial projects as clients brought us along on bigger challenges.
We're a small team by choice. Every project is led by one of us — not handed off to a junior designer after the first meeting. We take on fewer projects so we can do each one properly.
Our work is practical before it's pretty. We care about how a space feels to the people who actually use it.
How we work
We start with a conversation about how you use the space, what's not working, and what you want to feel when you're in it.
We develop a design direction — layouts, materials, color, and key pieces — and walk you through it before anything is ordered.
We handle procurement through our trade accounts, coordinating timelines across furniture, lighting, fixtures, and contractors.
We oversee the install and handle the details so you don't have to. You arrive to a finished space.
